A Day of Learning for Adults

PD Day activitiesThis past Friday, while a day away from school for students, it was a day of learning for our adults. Throughout the District professional learning sessions were taking place for our educators and support staff. Our elementary educators took part in either a Primary, Junior and Intermediate Symposium which featured key researchers along with our own talented staff. Sessions addressed reading, writing, number sense, Indigenous Education to name but a few.
Our secondary educators took part in subject specific learning in the many and varied disciplines while our support staff where sharing best practices and engaged with members of our community addressing issues such as poverty.
A very special thank you to our Family of Schools Superintendents who along with their program staff have been working behind the scenes for months to bring together such an impressive array of speakers and topics to support implementation of our Board and School Improvement Plans.
PD Day activities in board roomThe learning continued Saturday as two of our educators traveled to Toronto to present at the Catholic Curriculum Cooperative Annual Conference - When Faith Meets Pedagogy. Vanessa Di Marcelli (Experiential Learning Lead) and Mary Jane Snoeks (Curriculum Coordinator) presented to a provincial audience their project "Catholic Competencies: A New Perspective on the Ontario Catholic Graduate Expectations, Grades 7 - 12."
CGEsThe resource developed refreshes the vision of our Catholic Graduate Expectations (CGEs) making explicit connections to the Global Competencies (GCs). It aligns the CGEs and the GCs for teachers to better approach the holistic formation of every student, given the ever-changing, complex world of today. The goal of the resource is to ensure students contextualize the CGEs in their lives, learning, and growth through this impactful approach. This resource is available to all Catholic Educators via the CCC's website (catholiccurriculumcorp.org) under Catholic Resources.
